The area of Feneos associated with significantly mythological and historical figures. The plateau formed, formerly flooded by the waters of the rivers Doxa and Olvios. The surrounding mountains seem even reached the threshold of the lake.
Above the Doxa Lake surrounded by the mountains of Chelmos and Ziria is the Monastery of St George, which is founded at the 16th century. Near the village of Kalyvia is placed the acropolis of ancient Feneos incuding a temple dedicated to Asclepius.
